It all starts with an idea...

My studio is an eclectic mix of everything that I love.  It doesn’t matter if it makes sense to anyone else.  It makes sense to me.  It is my happy place and where I feel most like myself.

Find you a spot and make it your own.  Don’t know where to start?  Just start SOMEWHERE.  Don’t compare yourself or your work to anyone else.  It is not a contest.  You aren’t being judged.  This is your space – let if reflect who you are.

Create art with abandon … use your freedom of expression and just roll with it.

Buy an art journal and create something in it every day.  Even if it is only a quick drawing of an idea you are kicking around.

Sometimes inspiration comes from the simplest of things, like an offhand comment from a friend or a pattern on a dress in your favorite clothing store.

Ideas come from everywhere! Look around you - what do you see that inspires you?

Surround yourself with the colors, shapes, textures, and themes that you love.

Cut out magazine photos that “speak” to you.

Use scraps of fabric, ribbon, collage papers, and tissue paper… the list goes on and on.

Experiment – there are no rules.  This is what art is all about.

Open up Spotify and crank out your favorite tunes.  I love to listen to 70's AM radio tunes when I'm in the studio.

Let your mind wander.  Let your body relax. Don't overthink this.

What are your favorite quotes?  Write them down. You'd be surprised what a single quote might inspire artistically.

Never stop!  Just keep playing – try new techniques.  Never hold yourself back.

Get busy!  Create something awesome today!

xoxo -
